Stadium show their dominance to secure Wilson Cup over Mill Brow

-

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Wilson Cup was played out at the Simms Cross Institute.

The semi-finals saw the Mill Brow receive a bye to the final as the Widnes Cricket Club failed to field a side.

The other semi-final saw the Division Two outfit Main Top take on the top flight champions Halton Stadium.

Alan Magee gave the Stadium an early advantage but the Main Top struck back to level through Callum Taylor before taking the lead through Mark Middleton.

In the pairs, Alan Magee & John Bowles made it all even once more as the Stadium started to take a grip on the match with further victories from Tony Jackson & Joe Kelly and Joe Price & Colin Rigby.

With the Stadium on the brink of a place in the final, the remaining three singles games gave no comfort to the Main Top, as Joe Price, Tony Jackson and Joe Kelly all won to ensure a place in the final for their team.

In the final, the Brow started brightly with an 18 dart display by Kevin Helps.

However, Tony Jackson and Kenny Murphy just edged out their opponents to put the Stadium ahead.

A 17-darter from the Brow’s opening pair Dave Powell & Kevin Helps made it all square once more.

But that was it though, for the Brow as the league champions dominated the remainder of the match with wins from Alan Magee & John Bowles and Tony Jackson & Joe Kelly in the pairs, followed by three more from Joe Price, Joe Kelly and a 14-darter from John Bowles in the singles to give the Halton Stadium a convincing 7-2 win in the Wilson Cup Final. ●
