ARUNCORN OAP who changed into his boxer shorts and put his teeth in before groping a workman at his house has been sent down.

Allan Ainsworth, 87, of Adela Road, committed the offence just over two years since he sexually assaulted a supermarket delivery driver under similar circumstances, and six decades since his first convictions for indecent assault.

He was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday for an incident that happened earlier this year and left his victim feeling ‘disturbed’.

Maria Masselis, presenting the prosecution at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, said the workman had noticed that the curtains were drawn when he arrived at the property and when he knocked the defendant answered in his vest and pyjama bottoms.

He was invited inside and began working while Ainsworth made small talk before vanish- ing upstairs.

Ainsworth, then 86, reappeared in a pair of blue boxer shorts and vest, and ‘ had taken the opportunity to put his teeth in’.

The workman continued talking but was approached from behind by Ainsworth who ruffled his hair and said he would ‘never go bald’.

Ainsworth then sexually assaulted him with ‘forcible’ groping including to the groin along with a smutty remark, causing the shocked victim to exit the property leaving his tools behind before calling his employer.

A colleague was dispatched to retrieve the equipment and police were called.

In interview, Ainsworth admitted touching the man’s head but denied groping.

He was convicted of sexual assault over the matter at trial before magistrates’ court justices on June 12.

The court heard Ainsworth had nine previous convictions for sexual offences dating back to 1954, when five counts of indecent assault resulted in 18 months in prison.

Other offences occurred in 1975 and 1980.

In August 2015, he received a suspended prison sentence for sexually assaulting a supermarket delivery driver in 2014.

Ainsworth instigated the invasive groping by pretending to ‘ measure’ the shop driver, having commented on his height saying ‘you’re tall, how tall are you? Do you mind if I measure you?’.

He made a suggestive remark, ‘you’ve dressed on that side’, and sexually assaulted him.

Peter Gilmour, defence counsel, appealed for clemency based on his client’s age, frailty and health conditions, and said Ainsworth had complied with his last suspended sentence.

Recorder Ahmed Nadim, presiding, told Ainsworth he had shown ‘little or no regard to the damage you occasion’ and sentenced him to 20 weeks in jail.

Ainsworth must also sign the sex offenders’ register and pay a ● £115 victim surcharge.

Recorder Nadim said: “It appears from all the evidence that I have seen that you are a person who gives precedence to your own sexual gratification, not giving a great deal of care to the harm that you occasion by your conduct.

“In this particular case the victim of your crime has been left disturbed by his experience.

“His confidence has been damaged.”

He added: “Those who enter people’s houses in order to provide the kind of service the victim in this case... had entered to provide are entitled to receive the protection of this court so that others receive a message that they should not be subject to the kind of abuse you engaged in.”

The case had been moved from another courtroom within Chester Crown Court at the request of Judge Patrick Thompson to ensure Ainsworth had access to steps with a railing down to the cells.
