Hornets’ U9 and U8 teams sting the opposition with terrific victories

HFH U9 40 Hindley U9 4 ON a superb day for rugby league it was Halton Farnworth Hornets who excelled in every part of the pitch.

In attack, HFH were on fire with some brilliant individual efforts as well as teamwork that saw them run in 10 tries from eight different players.

The tries came from Matthew Brown, Cian Winstanley, Kobe MacKinnon, Joe Bebbington, Ellis Lloyd and Kian Rose with a brace each for James Prescott and Joe Heaney.

In defence, HFH worked extremely hard in the heat to keep Hindley away from their try line and it was only breached once in the encounter.

Every player stepped up their defensive game but it was Ellis Lloyd, Matthew Brown and Joe Heaney who dominated the centre of the park.

The outstandin­g everpresen­t Matthew Sinclair took the man-of-the-match award with 21 tackles.

HFH U8 Greens 28 Woolston Rovers U8 20 HFH U8 Greens gave the season’s best performanc­e as they entertaine­d Woolston Rovers.

Cobie Scott gave Greens an early lead with a try followed closely by teammate Malachy Arrowsmith.

Woolston responded with a well worked four-pointer of their own, but with strong tackling from Luke Holland, Jackson Riley, Leo Foster and player-of-the-match Isaac O’Brian who also added a hat-trick. Further tries from Leo Foster and Niall Dourley gave Hornets a great win.

The coaches’ award winner was Harry Owen with Luke Holland taking the top tackler accolade.
