Tex strikes back to secure the Shield

ON Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow League RTB Finals & Presentation Night took place at the Mill Brow SC.

In the Jack Adams Cup Final Mike Howard took on Karl Whitfield and played the stronger game as he took the match and the trophy in two straight legs.

In the Alf Houghton Memorial Shield Final – sponsored by the Widnes Bowling Club – it was unfortunate that his opponent Andy McIntosh was unable to attend which gave Callum Taylor the final by default to take the trophy.

This, however, should not detract from Callum’s achievement as he had showed excellent form in the previous rounds.

In the Alan Knowles Memorial Shield Final – sponsored by the Corporation Club – Paul Linger in the first of his two finals made the perfect start to his night with a powerful display to take out the Simms Cross Institute player Glyn Owen, winning the match and trophy in two straight legs.

In the first of the Halton Stadium Individuals semifinals – sponsored by the Halton Stadium – Dave Cowan took on Tex Bowles.

However, it was not to be Dave’s night as Tex threw the better game, winning in two straight legs.

In the second semi-final, Alex McGill could not make it an all-Widnes Bowling Club final as Kevin Garcia, who plays for close rivals Halton Stadium, claimed the opening leg. Kevin then went on to throw even better as he booked his final spot with an 11-dart display in the second leg.

In the final, Widnes Bowling Club’s Tex Bowles took on the Halton Stadium’s Kevin Garcia.

And it was Kevin who held sway as he took the opening game.

In the second leg, however, both players on reaching the bullseye squandered chances, before Tex finally made it a leg of darts apiece.

With the main prize all resting on the final leg of darts, it was Tex who stood his ground to win the Halton Stadium RTB Town Individuals Shield. ● The winner of the Halton Stadium RTB Town Individuals Shield, Tex Bowles, is pictured with his trophy.
