Ellison happy as O’Brien commits for another campaign

-

POPULAR Runcorn Linnets defender Danny O’Brien has committed to the club for the new season – to the delight of manager Michael Ellison.

O’Brien was named as the club’s Millbank Player of the Month three times in succession last season and landed December’s equivalent Macron award in The Hallmark Security League Premier Division for good measure.

The right-back’s performance level very rarely dipped during the entire campaign in which Linnets won the title and promotion to the Evo-Stik League for the first time in the club’s history.

The former Cammell Laird 1907 player – a set-piece specialist – has now committed to the club for the new season on his return from holiday.

Manager Ellison said: “Danny has been a crucial part of the way the team has developed over the last two seasons, culminating in our championship success.

“He is unflappable, always calm but also switched-on.

“There is no much more about Danny than just his very good full-back play as he is, of course, adept at set-pieces – be it sending in corners or scoring from free-kicks and penalties. I am very pleased to say that he is with us again for the new season.” ● LINNETS kick-off their pre-season programme on Saturday when they welcome Chester FC to the Millbank Linnets Stadium. The match kicks-off at 3pm. Runcorn are also at home next Tuesday evening – July 17 – when Ashton United are the visitors.

That game kicks-off at 7.45pm. ●
