‘Forsh’ on familiar territory
THE start of Widnes RUFC’s pre-season training received a boost last week, with the arrival of former firstteam captain Graham Forshaw from Australia.
‘Forsh’, as he still affectionately remembered at the Wids, departed these shores a number of years ago, where he subsequently made a career change to become a health and wellness coach.
In the role, he has had the opportunity to work with a number of teams and individual athletes to improve their strength and conditioning in order to get the most out of their sports.
So, when Widnes head coach Lee McDermott discovered that Graham was flying back to the UK for a month-long visit, he offered his good friend and ex-playing colleague the opportunity to come in and spend some time working with the squad at training to improve their levels of fitness in readiness for the coming season.
And, the first session went really well with more than 30 players in attendance.
In addition, Forshaw will also be offering a free wellness evaluation to players from all teams and other members who want to improve their overall health and wellbeing, with the main aim, of course, being to hit the ground running when the competitive action gets underway in late August and early September. ● WIDNES have arranged a pre-season encounter against local rivals West Park on Saturday, August 18. The intention is this fixture will be played every year and named the John Ratcliffe Memorial Cup. ●
