Hostels hope gala dinner will help people back on their feet
A GALA dinner raising funds for Halton’s homeless will take place on Thursday, August 30.
Proceeds will go towards Halton Lodge and Brennan Lodge, homeless hostels based in Runcorn and Widnes respectively that house more than 100 people between them.
They are teaming up to organise the event to raise funds to continue their activities including education and engagement timetables.
Lydia O’Hara, activities and engagement worker at Halton Lodge, said: “The work of this team develops the knowledge, skills, confidence and employability of residents and is a big part of their journeys to getting back on their feet and maintaining their independence.
“The event will be held from 7.30pm at the Holiday Inn, Runcorn, who have generously donated ● the first prize for the silent auction as a stay at the hotel with dinner and breakfast included.
“The evening will comprise of a three-course meal, live music from Lydia And The Witty Cats (Halton Lodge’s own activities and engagement worker and her band) and a raffle and silent auction.
“All of the money raised will go straight in to the hostels and will be a great way for local people and businesses to support their own community.
“We are all only a pay cheque away from risking homelessness, so this evening intends not only to raise funds but also awareness for a cause which may one day affect any of us.
“In times where there is so much hate and negativity prevalent in the media, this event hopes to bring love and togetherness to the forefront and remind those who often feel forgotten and let down that there are people out there who care.”
