School celebrates gold status award
ARUNCORN high school is celebrating after it was granted ‘flagship status’ and a Gold Standard Award in recognition of its work aimed at ensuring no students miss out on opportunities.
Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) received the titles following a review this year from the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) scheme, which found that the secondary’s ‘students are valued as individuals and this is encapsulated in everything that happens’.
It added that OBA is a place ‘where every student really does matter and is made to feel special’.
The award scheme recognises schools which endeavour to boost inclusive practices and make sure young people have access to opportunities regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or background.
An OBA spokeswoman said that the school also pays particular attention to the achievements of different groups within the academy including those facing challenges in their lives.
She said the school is already on its way to achieving its goal of becoming one of the country’s best.
The academy is one of only 100 schools in the UK to receive flagship status.
Mandy Wallace, OBA special educational needs co-ordinator, said: “I am really proud to achieve this award as it recognises OBA as a truly inclusive academy and acknowledges the hard work that staff put in to support our students.”
Emlyn Wright, OBA principal, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this Gold Standard Award, which is ● testament to the hardwork, commitment, and passion of our pastoral care and support team at the academy.
“At OBA, we are committed to ensuring all students, whatever their background, have access to the opportunities and skills needed to fulfil their potential, and fostering an inclusive culture is a large part of this.
“It is brilliant that this has been recognised by the IQM.”
