Memorial events on November 11
● ARMISTICE Day memorial events in Halton are to take place as follows: ● IN Widnes, the civic procession will assemble at 10.05am on Lockett Road, to set off promptly at 10.35am for a 10.45 arrival at the War Memorial in Victoria Park, where the service will take place.
Mike McNicholas, of the Ball O’Ditton branch of the Royal British Legion, said the service will be conducted by Church Of England, Methodist and Catholic ministers and attended by a Lord Lieutenant’s representative.
He said the parade will include a horse, dog and doves to remember the animals that died during the conflict. ● FOR Runcorn, the parade is expected to assemble at 2.30pm on Greenway Road, to depart at 2.45pm to arrive at the Cenotaph for the Runcorn service at 3pm.
The Royal British Legion has appealed to the general public and organisations to observe a two-minutes silence at 11am on November 11.
In addition, the two lawns either side of the Cenotaph in Runcorn are to be rededicated as gardens of remembrance, at 2pm, on Monday, November 5, featuring a short service.
Visitors are welcome to place British Legion Remembrance crosses. ● BEFORE the main public events, veterans from the Widnes and Ball O’Ditton RBL branches, as well as the Widnes Royal Artillery Association, will be meeting with Derek Twigg MP, Cllr Rob Polhill, the Halton Borough Council leader, and Kingsway councillor Andrea Wall at Widnes Cemetery Cross Of Sacrifice at 9am on Remembrance Sunday to remember those buried who served.
Wreaths will be laid and an air cadet will play The Last Post and Reveille.
They will then join the main parade on Lockett Road. ●
