lowed tracks to Lyn-y-Parc and finally to Betws-yCoed.

The remaining two walks were circular led from Betws-y-Coed. Val Hennessey guided her C group of nine walkers through the forest until they reached Lyn Elsi, at a height of 700ft.

A dam was built in 1914 and the lake provides water for the village.

Taking the tracks around the lake the group had constant views of the Carneddau mountain range and Moel Siabod. Leaving the lakeside the walkers took forest paths to Rhiwddolion and joined the Roman Road (Sarn Helen), walking on and off this path to enjoy the rivers and streams in the little valleys, until they came to the Miners bridge.

Here they crossed the River Llugwy before their short walk along the riverside path into Betws-yCoed.

John Cormack led a seven-mile D walk taking the riverside path on the River Lugwy out towards the Swallow Falls. The falls have been a familiar ‘celebrity’ over the past 100 years and have featured on film, postcards and canvas. Taking the walking route to observe the falls on the northern side of the river you get more dramatic views of the gushing waterfalls.

The walk continued along the riverside until they came to the Ugly House.

Ty Hyll – or Ugly House – is owned by the Snowdonia Society.

The house was reputedly built overnight in order to establish legal ownership.

The group then started their return journey, joining forest tracks on the other side of the valley.

It was a beautiful autumnal day with the leaves green, yellows and red and the hillsides a hue of purples, gold and brown – a magnificent pallet of colours.

The walkers arrived back in the village invigorated and ready for some refreshment before their journey home.

The next trip is to Edgworth in Lancashire this Sunday, November 11. If you would like to join us contact the booking secretary on 07842 160 944 or visit www.nmc-ramblers. or.uk for more details.
