Batty hits tar­get to win epic

ON Mon­day night in the Widnes & Dis­trict Darts League, the Widnes Bowl­ing Club League con­tin­ued with round seven be­ing played.

The Ball at home to the Gold­mine con­ceded the first three games to the vis­i­tors’ Karl Windisch (19 darts), Brad Flem­ming and Terry Roach (16 and 18 darts plus a 180). The Ball’s open­ing pair took the next game, in­clud­ing a max­i­mum. How­ever, the Gold­mine were still on a roll as they took the next two games through John Glover & Lee Hayes and Sean Bell & Terry Roach (14 darts) to en­sure their match vic­tory. The Ball took the next game only for the Gold­mine’s Tom Cal­laghan and John Glover (18 and 15 darts plus a 180 and a 130 fin­ish) claimed the re­main­ing two games to wrap up a 7-2 win.

The Mill Brow SC at home to Widnes Bowl­ing Club had a bad start as the Bowler took the first four games via Alex McGill, Tommy Robert­son, Tex Bowles and open­ing pair, Alex McGill (106 fin­ish) & Dave Ger­rard.

The Brow came back with a vengeance, tak­ing four games of their own through Neil Platt & Paul Linger, Kevin Helps & Brian Spruce, Dave Pow­ell (18 darts) and Paul Linger to level things up. Joe Batty then won the fi­nal game and the thrilling match for Widnes Bowl­ing Club.

The Mill­field at home to the Ham­mer & Pin­cers won all nine games.

Ron­nie Greylish, Mark Mid­dle­ton and Chris Booth be­gan the rout in the sin­gles. This was fol­lowed by pairs Ian Wall & Danny Wood, Chris Tay­lor & Dave Jones and Billy Fox & Alan Sut­ton be­fore be­ing com­pleted by sin­gles Chris Tay­lor, Billy Fox and Alan Sut­ton.

Simms Cross In­sti­tute at home to Hal­ton Sta­dium saw the vis­i­tors’ Tony Jack­son take the first game. Ray Dut­ton threw next and lev­elled mat­ters for the Stute.

The Sta­dium then started a match-win­ning rally tak­ing the next six games through Joe Kelly, John Bowles & Tony Jack­son, Ed­die Doot­son & Kevin Gar­cia (19 darts), Joe Kelly & Joe Price, Ed­die Doot­son and Kevin Gar­cia (18 darts & 180).

Glyn Owen se­cured the fi­nal game for the Stute, but it was just aca­demic in the end.
