Brownfield site back in use after facility finally gets approval

-

A WIDNES industrial unit that has been subject to many failed planning applications has had a refurbishment planning application approved.

The unit, off Everite Road, has deteriorated into disrepair and forms the basis of the proposals.

Hutchinson Engineering wants to extend and refrubish the current unit to create a new unit, with a new office facility.

Currently the unit is unoccupied, comprising a single-storey steel frame warehouse building.

The applicant also owns the land south of the site, meaning a seamless link with its current site.

The firm is looking to create a modern industrial unit for the purpose of metal fabrication with associated office space. It would bring back a productive use of exisiting industrial space.

The proposed development will have 75 parking bays, with electronic vehicle charging points and cycle storage shown on the plan.

It will secure the commercial and corporate headquarters, safeguarding approximately 60 jobs and creating nearly 40 jobs across the company.

The approval of the proposals represents an investment supporting council policy for the regeneration of Everite Road as a modern employment area, making the most of its strategic location. The continued growth and success of advanced manufactoring is a key sector within both Halton and Liverpool City Region.

The site was previously occupied by Merseyside Coatings Ltd.

Plans for a metal recycling facility have been refused by Halton development control in the past on the grounds that the proposal would not provide suffiecient screening to stop the obtrusiveness for resident’s in the area.

The report concluded the proposal makes a positive contribution to the renewal of Everite Road, as a modern industrial and employment area. It willl also bring a large, derelict brownfield siteback into productive use.
