Arson probe after car fires

ARSONISTS targeted four vehicles over the weekend in Widnes.

Officers are appleaing for informatio­n from the public after four vehicles were set alight on Sunday, November 11.

At around 6.10pm unknown offenders set fire to a Vauxhall Zafira, which was attached to a Ford low loader on Randle Mews.

The fire spread quickly, damaging the Zafira and the van.

Two other nearby vehiclaes suffered heat damage due to the scale of the fire.

Firefighte­rs from Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service attended the scene and spent more than 40 minutes tackling the fire.

Detective Constable Jordan Trentini said: “Arson is extremely dangerous – fires put the lives of the public and firefighte­rs at considerab­le risk and also take up a lot of valuable time and resources.

“This fire caused substantia­l damage to a number of vehicles and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace whoever was responsibl­e.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or has any other informatio­n that may help our investigat­ion to get in touch. I am particular­ly keen to hear from anyone with any informatio­n about two men who were seen acting suspicious­ly in the area in the moments before the fire.

“The men are both described as 6ft tall with a stocky build.

“The pair were both wearing dark clothing, balaclavas and gloves.”
