-

● CHESHIRE Search And Rescue team has received the Queen’s Award For Voluntary Service, the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK.

The award was presented by David Briggs, MBE, KStJ, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Of Cheshire, at a presentation ceremony in October at the team’s training base, the Deanwater Hotel, which is a longstanding supporter of the team.

Simon Lane, team leader at Cheshire Search And Rescue, said: “The whole team is delighted to receive this award, which can be aligned to receiving an ‘MBE for charities’.

“It’s a real honour to have our work over the last 14 years recognised in this way and a wonderful thank you to all those who give up their time and expertise to make the team what it is today.

“We’re also delighted to welcome Brigadier (Ret’d) John Thomson OBE QVRM TD DL, Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant Of Cheshire as our Patron. ●

“It’s a huge honour for the team to be recognised by this support and we are extremely pleased that we will be able to involve the Deputy Lieutenant in the future development of the team.”

The team also featured on BBC1’s recent four-part documentary series Reported Missing, which depicted several searches that the team was involved with.

Feedback following the four episodes has been extremely positive and helped to demonstrate the work the team does to a wider audience for the first time.
