Ladies hit back with six in win
Runcorn Ladies I 6 Timperley Ladies III 3 AFTER last week’s disappointing 1-0 defeat against Wilmslow’s second XI, Runcorn Hockey Club’s ladies’ first-team were in the mood to take the spoils against a physical Timperley Ladies’ third side when they met at The Heath School last Saturday afternoon.
Runcorn started well and were soon on the scoresheet thanks to a fantastic strike from Jayne Buck from a penalty corner.
Buck doubled the lead shortly after with a well-taken effort from the centre of the circle.
The third goal was a fantastic team move started by a crossfield hit out by Alex Bradshaw who found Jan Nazum in open space.
Nazum was able to find Lauren Bradshaw who ran down the right and slipped a neat ball to Rebecca Fisher who finished with a sweeping shot.
Bradshaw added a fourth goal from a tight angle. The successful opening period for Runcorn finished with a strike from Steph Woodstock at the far post giving the home side a comfortable 5-0 lead at the midway point.
Runcorn conceded two goals at the start of the second half before Woodstock added Runcorn’s sixth from a rebound off the Timperley keeper.
A third consolation goal for Timperley came near the end of the game, although the ball looked to have been struck from outside the circle.
The final whistle blew and Runcorn bagged themselves a very well deserved three points.
Player-of-the-match honours went to double markswoman Buck.
Next up for Runcorn is a trip to Bowdon Ladies IV who they played at the start of the season. Runcorn will be looking to turn the draw from that game into a win.
Saturday’s match in the Cheshire Women’s Hockey League Division Two at Bowdon Hockey Club’s home on South Downs Road has a 3pm start time.
