Three-mendous late victories from Millfield earn them match success

ON Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued with round eight being played.

Mill Brow SC at home to Widnes Bowling Club ‘A’ started well with two in a row from Ray Linger and Mark Harrison. Alex McGill then recovered a point for the Millfield, only to see the Brow secure a further two wins via Ray Linger & Dave Powell and Chris Bright & Paul Woodward in the pairs.

The Bowler replied with two wins of their own through Scott Byrne & Tommy Robertson and Scott Grady, keeping them in with a chance as the score became 4-3.

However, the Mill Brow SC had other ideas as they took the final two games and the match through Dave Powell (17 darts) and Neil Platt.

The Millfield at home to Farnworth SC bagged the first two games through Ian Wall and Alan Sutton.

Farnworth responded with wins from Carl Bryan and opening pair Keith Allen & Carl Bryan to level the score.

A further two wins from Ian Sharples & Alan Rigby & Trevor Chadwick & Matty Fisher edged Farnworth ever closer to the finish line.

However, they did not bank on the Millfield’s tenacity, as three in a row from Michael Howard, Billy Fox and Chris Taylor gave the the home team the match.

The Cricketers Arms at home to the Ball took the first game through Graham Fenney (15 darts).

The Ball swiftly matched this through Ste Whitfield before going ahead with a further win from Peter Kneale.

Parity was restored as the Cricketers Arms’ opening pair, Graham Fenney & Brian Dwyer levelled the score.

The Ball went back into the lead through Ste Whitfield & Martin Ball, only to see the Cricketers’ Ian Connor & Brian Mercer level at 3-3 before a win from John Blakely took them ahead.

Once more, the Ball hit back with a win from Karl Whitfield making it 4-4. And this time their luck continued to the end as Barry Highfield (14 darts) claimed the final game and the match for the Ball.

Widnes Cricket Club at home to Simms Cross Institute conceded the first game to the visitors’ Ged McPartland (18 darts). The Cricket Club came back to level with a win from Ben Hewitt. The Stute’s Andy Abbott took them ahead and their opening pair, Brian Dutton & Glyn Owen added a further victory. The Cricket Club’s Dean Morris & Ernie Griffiths narrowed the gap, but to no avail as three in a row from the Stute’s Brian Dutton & Ged McPartland, Dave Evans and Mick Cullen ensured their match triumph.

The Cricket Club’s Phil Catterall claimed the final game, but it was just academic.

Widnes Bowling Club ‘B’ at home to the Mersey Hotel took the first game through Dave Batty. The Mersey then levelled via Danny Shipley.

That was to be as good as it would get for the Mersey as Widnes Bowling Club ‘B’ took the remaining seven games through Ian Argent, Dave Batty & Jeff Thompson, Alan Moran & Alan Pennington, Dave Pickles & Dave Cowan, Alan Moran, Alan Pennington and Dave Pickles.

The Goldmine at home to Hough Green SC started really well as they claimed the first four games through Peter Mullally, Sean Bell, Jack Dunn and Ray O’Connor & Barry Noonan. Hough Green responded with a win from Andy McIntosh & Barry Sefton, only to see the Goldmine’s Sean Bell & Lee Hayes (17 darts) and Lee Hayes win the next two games confirming their match victory. Derek Turton claimed the penultimat­e game for Hough Green, whilst Jimmy Holden took the final game wrapping up a 7-2 win for the Goldmine.
