Boss Herbert not amused after cup exit to Victoria

-

● CHRIS HERBERT has warned his misfiring Runcorn Town players that they are fast running out of chances at the Viridor Community Stadium.

Town lost 3-1 at Northwich Victoria in The Macron Cup on Sunday – their second defeat in three games – and the manager asserted a different side will be on show when they visit the same opposition this Saturday afternoon.

“[Northwich] know there was a lot missing from the team, especially attacking-wise. It’ll be a much better game next week,” Herbert said. “We can’t play like that. “The players we had out were still enough to do a job and they never so I’ve made it clear that there’ll be a few changes.”

Dale Jennings, Craig Lindfield and Jamie Menagh were all missing from Sunday’s cup exit but the former Welshpool and Flint boss revealed his patience is wearing thin with several squad members.

“There’s a few lads that aren’t quite good enough for us and some lads who aren’t pulling their weight at the same time so things need to change,” he said.

“They need to happen quite quick or we’re going to fall out of everything.

“There’s going to be [new additions]. I’m working on it at the moment. I can’t keep giving people chances and they’re not taking them.

“There’s only so many chances someone can have. In football you take your chances when they come along otherwise you fall by the wayside. That’s just football unfortunately.”

Teenage striker Leon Wright opened the scoring for Runcorn in the defeat to Northwich before later seeing red and the manager leapt to the defence of the young starlet.

“It was a very, very harsh red card in my opinion,” Herbert added.

“The lad’s gone in for a tackle and it was just a strong tackle.

“The referee was poor all game, terrible to be honest, probably the worst we’ve had. In fact it’s the worst I’ve had since I’ve been at the club.”

Saturday’s match at Northwich Victoria’s Wincham Park ground kicks-off at 3pm. Town also have a midweek game next Wednesday night when they play host to Charnock Richard at the Viridor Community Stadium. The match has a 7.45pm kick-off time.
