Stadium in outstanding form on the oche as they blank Farnworth

-

ON Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, round 10 of the Mill Brow SC RTB League was played.

Halton Stadium at home to Farnworth SC, ripped through their opponents. Alan Magee started the victory, which was quickly backed up by Kenny Murphy before Mike Callaghan waded in with a 19 darter.

There was no respite in the pairs either as Alan Magee & John Bowles, Joe Price & Barry Stanners and Tony Jackson & Joe Kelly ensured the two points were confirmed.

With the points in the bag, the Stadium did not ease off as Colin Rigby, Eddie Barlow and Joe Price completed a 9-0 whitewash.

Mill Brow SC at home to the Ball, got off to a start they could not recover from as Peter Jerram, Anthony Hall and Peter Kneale made it three in a row for the visitors.

In the pairs, the Brow struck back via Dave Powell & Ray Linger and Paul Woodward & Chris Bright to narrow the gap. However, it was to no avail as Martin Ball & Ste Whitfield put the Ball on the brink of victory which swiftly followed as Ste Whitfield and Martin Ball took two more games to seal the match.

It was scant consolation as Dave Powell took the final game for the Brow in 19 darts.

The Millfield at home to Simms Cross Institute, despite losing the opening game to the visitors’ Ged McPartland, soon took command.

Alan Sutton with a sublime 10-dart display started the onslaught which was backed up by Chris Taylor to put the Milly ahead.

In the pairs, Jamie Doneghan & Keith Horabin in 17 darts followed by Alan Sutton & Ian Wall in 19 darts heaped on the pressure.

And despite Dave Evans & Paul Batty followed by an 18-darter from Brian Dutton to get the Simmies back in the match, it was not to be their night as Billy Fox gave the Millfield a well-earned 5-3 victory.

The Cricketers Arms at home to the Mersey Hotel, started well with two in a row from Graham Fenney and Ian Connor.

And although Jamie Davidson pulled a game back, the Cricketers stood firm.

They won all three contests in the pairs via Graham Fenney & Ian Connor, Tony Ainsworth & Arthur Shone and Brian Dwyer & Brian Mercer to secure their team’s match success. With nothing left to play for other than pride, the Mersey hit back with three wins of their own thanks to Danny Cotterill, Sharon Unsworth and Danny Davidson.

Widnes Cricket Club at home to Hough Green SC, got off to a flying start with an 18-dart game from Kevin Baxter followed by a 14-darter from Ben Hewitt.

Derek Turton pulled a game back, but Dean Morris & Ben Hewitt kept up the Cricket Club outfit’s good start.

And with Keith Glover & Derek Turton’s game being cancelled out by Rob Morris & Kev Baxter, a two-game advantage was maintained on return to the final three singles encounters.

A 17-dart game from Paul Woods narrowed the advantage to one, but it was soon over for the visitors as Ernie Griffiths and Danny Mellor cleaned up for Widnes Cricket Club.

Widnes Bowling Club ‘B’ at home to the Goldmine, had an awful start losing all three of the opening round of singles to Karl Windisch in 14 darts, followed by Adam Mullally and Anton Conroy.

In the pairs, the Bowler fared better by taking the first two clashes via Dave Cowan & Mike Ruane and Mark Connor & Alan Moran. But with Barry Noonan & Anton Conroy taking the last in the pairs, it meant the Goldmine required just one of the final round of singles.

The Bowler’s Alan Pennington staved of defeat but not for long as James Holden and Peter Mullally delivered the spoils for the Goldmine.
