Millfield’s Howard is the hero

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League round 10 was played.

Hammer & Pincers at home to Halton Stadium had a night to forget as they lost all nine games to the rampant visitors.

Kenny Murphy, Joe Kelly (180) and Neil Ward began the rout in the singles.

The pairs that followed saw wins for John Bowles & Alan Magee, Tony Jackson & Joe Price and Joe Kelly & Colin Rigby.

Finally, John Bowles (19 darts), Tony Jackson (19 darts) and Colin Rigby finished off the whitewash in the second group of singles.

Mill Brow SC at home to the Goldmine started badly as they conceded the first four games to the visitors’ Karl Windisch (180 and 114 finish), Brad Fleming (180), John Glover and opening pair, Terry Roach & Anton Conroy (18 darts).

The Brow recovered a point through their first pair Paul Linger & Neil Platt, only to see John Glover & Lee Hayes add to the Goldmine’s tally confirming their match vicotry.

Two further wins from the Brow’s Dave Powell (17 darts and 180) and Brian Spruce narrowed the gap to 5-3, but the Goldmine’s Sean Bell wrapped up a comfortabl­e 6-3 triumph for his team.

The Millfield at home to the Ball saw the visitors’ Martin Ball (18 darts and 120 checkout) take the first game.

Billy Fox then levelled for the Millfield. The Ball then went ahead again with wins from Ste Whitfield and their opening pair.

The Millfield rallied, taking the next three games via Billy Fox & Ian Wall, Michael Howard & Alan Sutton and Alan Sutton (107 checkout) to make it 4-3.

The Ball’s Karl Whitfield took the penultimat­e game to level the thrilling contest at 4-4. Michael Howard (17 darts) was then victorious for the Millfield in the final game to win the match for his side. ●
