Stabbed teen left for dead

DETECTIVES are investigat­ing after a man was stabbed and left for dead in Runcorn. Cheshire police said the 19-year-old was attacked from behind on Latham Avenue at the junction with Spur Road at 1.30am on Thursday, December 20, as he made his way home after a night out.

He was hit from behind and while prone on the ground was kicked and stamped on.

The victim was also stabbed in the head and left unconsciou­s.

He was treated in hospital and has since been discharged.

Residents told the Weekly News they had not seen or heard anything of the assault or emergency response.

Social media users have expressed widespread shock over the incident.

Police are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have any informatio­n that may assist.

Detective Constable Nathaniel Walkowiak said: “We are appealing for ● anyone who may have been in that area at the time to get in touch.

“There wouldn’t have been many people in the streets at that time and any informatio­n people may be able to provide could help us solve this unprovoked attack.
