Vandals slammed over dog’s cut

-

AN animal loved has slammed vandals after her pet dog suffered a bloody gash in his paw while walking through a Runcorn underpass.

Natasha Hayes, 21, said her German shepherd Sirus began limping while they were out walking at around 9pm on Thursday, December 20.

However, he then seemed to be alright but overnight she spotted blood in his bed and then the cut.

Trained in animal care, Natasha cleaned the wound and applied a dressing and has looked after his recovery herself.

She believes the cut happened while Sirus was walking through an underpass below the Southern Expressway near Ridding Lane in Brookvale which is littered with smashed glass.

The underpass is at the end of a path leading past a play area and basketball hoop near Ridding Lane.

Natasha slated vandals who have left the area strewn with smashed bottles ‘all over the road’ and in the tunnel as having ‘no consideration for people’s pets’.

She told the Weekly News: “I was just walking him and all of a sudden he started like limping but then was fine.

“We got home and went to bed woke up and his bed had some blood on it and he was limping around so I checked and that’s when I seen the cut.

“I’ve got my level 3 extended diploma in a animal management so I know how to tr treat wounds thankfully.

“I have cleaned it up and out a dressing on – that will need to be cleaned and changed three times a day.”

A councillor told the Weekly News the g glass would be cleaned up as soon as p possible (ASAP).

Cllr Ron Hignett, Norton South, said: “Nobody has reported any glass in the tunnels under the expressway in Ridding Lane to me, I have now reported this incident and it has been classed as an e emergency and it will be cleared up ASAP.

“Residents can report incidents like this by phoning the council’s main switch board on 0303 3334300.”
