Pair leave Town for Barnton

-

RUNCORN TOWN duo Danny Jarrett and Leon Wright have departed Runcorn Town in search of regular football at Hallmark Security League First Division South side Barnton.

‘DJ’ joined the club ahead of the 2016-17 season and was one of the most popular players to have been at the club under Chris Herbert. ●

He played 68 times for Runcorn in his two-anda-half seasons, scoring just the one goal for the club although it was a memorable one.

He opened the scoring in Town’s 3-1 derby triumph over Runcorn Linnets in his first month at the club.

Wright joined the club at the start of this season and has played in 19 games thus far, scoring his first senior goal when he hit the equaliser at Northwich Victoria in The Macron Cup back in November. ● ● ners by a final scoreline of 58-22 but they were pushed all the way by the Vets before finally claiming the local bragging rights.

Following the on-the-pitch action, both sets of players and spectators then retired back into the clubhouse to continue with part two of the proceedings which consisted of a series of indoor bar games including darts, dominoes and matchbox rugby. ● Meanwhile, after a three-week break, normal service is resumed on Saturday, when Widnes entertain Oldham in the ADM Premier League, in what is without doubt, the game of the day

Separated by just by just three points – Widnes are top as things stand, whilst Oldham are third – means that this game is a real ‘eight-pointer’ and a win for either side is likely to go a long way to either reinforcing or reinvigorating their chances of going to better things as the remainder of the season slowly unfolds.

The Manor Park outfit have been in terrific form all season having lost just two games. They have some impressive scalps under their belts including a double over arch rivals Liverpool St Helens whom the Wids beat in their last match before the Christmas break.

Importantly, they also have a game in hand, so a victory this weekend would see them leapfrog their Cheshire rivals who beat them 20-17 which kick-started their revival back in September.

Widnes, though, will be equally as determined, and intent on making it their first ‘double’ of the campaign, as well as putting a little more daylight between themselves and their rivals.

The Red-and-Blacks ended the calendar year in a rich vein of form after that comprehensive victory in the freezing cold at Moss Lane.

And, with the half-term break allowing the players to rest their bruised and aching limbs after a frantic first half of the campaign, confidence will be high going into this vital contest.

In the other senior fixtures, the seconds travel to Whitchurch, whilst the thirds play host to Sefton.

All the games kick-off at 2.15pm.
