Broncos in second half onslaught as Widnes wilt

- WIDNES VIKINGS U19S ............. 22 LONDON BRONCOS U19S ......... 52

LONDON Broncos U19s produced a second-half comeback to record a convincing win over Widnes Vikings U19s at the Halton Stadium.

The hosts got off to a great start inside the first two minutes as Olly Brookes touched down after good work from Lewis Else who added the conversion.

The two combined well five minutes later, Brookes going over on the left edge, but Else’s pass was ruled forward.

The Broncos levelled through Charlie Gamble, Robert Oakley converting, before taking the lead when Rory Grab finished a move to cross under the sticks, Oakley again converting.

The hosts bounced back through some magic from half-back Tony Fenlon, chipping and chasing on the last tackle to collect the bouncing ball and go over. Else converted.

Jordan Brown was next on the scoresheet, capitalising on an Else kick to touch down, only for the kicker to miss his conversion attempt.

There was still time for the Vikings to add another try before the half was out, Tony Fenlon and Jake Burns combining to send Burns over under the sticks. With Else’s conversion, the young Vikings went into the break 10 points clear.

The visitors made a strong start to the second half, however, grabbing three tries inside the opening 10 minutes to take control of the game.

Jamie Humphreys began the onslaught, Charlie Gamble adding the second and completing his hat-trick on the 50 minute mark. Rian Horsman converted all three, to put the London side eight points ahead.

The Vikings had some territory and pressure down in London’s 20 metres, with Jordan Brown going close, but couldn’t break the Broncos’ line to reduce the deficit.

After surviving the Vikings’ pressure, the Broncos again regained control. Joel FosuheneGray was given a walk-in at the corner and Gamble broke down the Broncos’ left edge minutes later, feeding Humphreys for his second try under the sticks. Horsman converted.

Fosuhene-Gray then scored a length-of-the-field effort from a tap restart on his 20 metre line to grab his own brace with 10 minutes to go. Oakley converted.

The final score of the afternoon came from Oliver Leyland, who stepped at the line and break down-field. The half back beat two defenders to race 60 metres and score under the sticks, Horsman adding the conversion to complete the Broncos’ impressive seven-try second half display.
