Jamie returns to the Whites

WIDNES Football Club are delighted to announce the return of striker Jamie Rainford.

The 31-year-old has completed a switch from Mossley 15 months after departing Widnes for Clitheroe in October 2018.

Jamie became Widnes’ first summer signing ahead of the 2018-19 Evo-Stik Division West season, reuniting with co-boss Kevin Towey - teammates at

Marine.

He made 10 appearance­s for the Whites, scoring twice before moving to Clitheroe and then on to Ramsbottom United, ending the season with 22 goals in all competitio­ns.

Rainford began this season at Runcorn Linnets before making the switch to

Mossley in November.

He is in the squad for today’s BetVictor Northern Premier League Division One North/West clash at Ossett United.

It’s also been announced that Widnes will welcome Hyde United to the DCBL Stadium in the third round of the Integro Cup.

The Whites’ penalty shootout win over

Leek Town has set up a tie against the Tigers, who are three-time winners of this competitio­n.

Hyde beat Lancaster City on penalties in the second round to reach this stage of the competitio­n and sit 28 places above Widnes in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Managed by former Darlington and York City defender David McGurk, the Tigers were in the Conference Premier (now National League) as recently as 2014.

The tie will take place on Tuesday February 11 at the DCBL Stadium, kickingoff at 7.45pm.

Admission prices will be confirmed in due course.
