Quick-thinking owner stopped fire spreading
FIREFIGHTERS have urged householders to heed advice on smoke alarms and closing doors after a householder’s actions stopped a blaze spreading in Widnes.
Pictures posted by Penketh Fire Station on social media showed a badly charred section of bedroom showing burned, blistered and peeling surfaces.
The devastation hinted at how dangerous the incident, on Fieldway, could have turned.
A statement on Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service’s website said the blaze is believed to have started in an airing cupboard in a back bedroom.
All the householders were outside and accounted for when crews arrived.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a hose jet.
They then used a large fan to disperse the smoke, and checked to make sure the fire had not spread.
Penketh Fire Station published four pictures from the scene, including one showing where tendrils of smoke had seeped out above the bedroom door.
On Facebook, the station said: “This afternoon Green Watch attended a house fire, the fire had started upstairs in the airing cupboard bedroom.
“After being alerted by the smoke alarm, the owner safely shut the door to the bedroom before leaving the property.
“Down to the owner’s actions, the fire was contained within the room, limiting fire and smoke spreading to other parts of the house.
“The owner advised his actions were down to the advice we had previously given him when attending a safe and well visit at his property.
“Our message to you is to please check your smoke alarms and keep doors closed, this could save lives, property and possessions.” within the
