Police hunt hit-and-run driver after teenage cyclist air-lifted to hospital

-

A TEENAGE cyclist was airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in Widnes.

Detectives are still trying to trace the grey Ford Kuga involved in the incident, which happened on Milton Road between 3.30pm and 4pm last Wednesday, September 16.

Cheshire police said the 18-yearold man was riding towards Riverside College when the Kuga “collided with him”.

The car, which had been travelling in the same direction, failed to stop at the scene and turned left onto Cameron Road.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said the cyclist was airlifted to hospital where his condition was being treated as serious but stable.

He has since been discharged. Police cordoned off a section of Milton Road close to the shops and the junction with Cameron Road and officers also deployed a drone while investigations took place.

One woman at the scene, who asked not to be named, told the Weekly News she had heard “a kid” had been hit and the “fella drove off”, and that the casualty was “covered in blood”.

Widnes police tweeted at 6.44pm a few hours after the collision to say the road had opened again.

Officers are keen to hear from witnesses and anyone who can identify the Kuga’s driver.

Detective Constable Tina Jackson, of Widnes Local Policing Unit, said: “Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and we urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may help us identify the driver or locate the grey Ford Kuga to contact us.

“If you were in the area at the time and have dashcam footage that may aid our investigation you can submit it via our website.
