Round-up of court dates

THE latest sentencing hearings for Runcorn and Widnes cases from magistrate­s’ court include a man wanted by the police for three weeks being fined, a driving ban, two assaults and having a broken bottle as a weapon in public.

All the hearings took place at North Cheshire Magistrate­s’ Court (NCMC) on Monday, February 8.

Details of financial penalties are also included.

● A WANTED man from Runcorn has been fined £120 for a public order offence after being sought by police

● for three weeks.

Cheshire Constabula­ry said Dean Gerrard Potter, 22, handed himself in on Friday, February 5.

Officers had issued an initial appeal over his whereabout­s on January 12.

Potter, of Victoria Road, appeared at NCMC in Warrington on Monday, February 8, where he pleaded guilty to one count of using threatenin­g words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour.

The offence was committed on December 29 in Runcorn.

Potter was fined £120.

A force spokeswoma­n said the 22-year-old appeared to have handed himself in at Runcorn Custody Suite on Manor Park.

Court papers said no jail term was imposed due to the time spent in custody “since Friday”.

● FAILING to provide a specimen has resulted in an 18-month road ban for a Runcorn driver.

Stephen Roberts, 45, of Eastwood, Windmill Hill, pleaded guilty on January 14 to having committed the offence in Runcorn on Christmas Day, December 25.

He returned to NCMC on February 8 where he received a community order with up to 20 days on a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t.

Roberts was also fined £50 and ordered to pay £180 to prosecutio­n cost and victim services.

He was banned from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 18 weeks upon completing an accredited course.

● A ST HELENS man was fined £120 for assaulting a man in Widnes by beating.

Jason Smith, 26, of Pocket Nook Street, was found guilty at NCMC on February 8 after initially denying the charge on September 23.

The incident was on November 30, 2019.

Smith was also ordered to pay £80 in compensati­on, £32 to victim services, £400 to prosecutio­n costs.

His full legal bill totalled £632.

● ASSAULTING a woman in Widnes and being caught carrying a broken glass bottle has landed a St Helens teenager in a young offenders’ institute for 22 weeks – about five months.

Leon Robinson, 18, of Dorothy Street, Thatto Heath, appeared at NCMC on February 8, where he pleaded guilty to breaching a noncontact order, assault by beating, having an offensive weapon, namely a broken glass bottle, on Alforde Street in Widnes, and committing an offence during a suspended sentence.

The incidents happened on February 5 in St Helens, Merseyside, and Widnes, Cheshire.

In addition to his 22 weeks of incarcerat­ion, Robinson was made subject to a restrainin­g order and told to pay £100 in compensati­on.
