Arts alive as creatives benefit from grant cash

-

HALTON’S arts and culture scene has been declared “truly alive” after a series of events and projects funded as part of its Borough of Culture year.

Borough councillor Paul Nolan made the comment after the Made in Halton small grants programme closed.

While running, Made in Halton funded arts, culture and heritage projects completed by artists, residents and neighbourhood groups either living or based in the area.

Formed as part of the Halton Borough of Culture 2021 celebrations under the banner of Celebrate Halton, the programme funded ideas and projects that showcased work that were created and rolled out around the borough.

Highlights included Shakespeare in the open air at Norton Priory, 24-hour radio station Loop Radio which had the aim of bringing DJs together during the isolation of the pandemic, the More In Common photography exhibition at Culture HQ Runcorn, creative arts LGBTQ+ workshops, and live comedy nights at The Studio in Widnes.

A panel of culture chiefs from around Halton picked the projects to go ahead with grants of up to £750 awarded to individuals and groups.

Cllr Nolan said: “It’s great to see the variety of cultural and heritage projects that have benefited from the Made in Halton grant.

“The borough is truly alive with a diverse range of organisations developing and stimulating the creative talents of our residents.”
