Murder charge after driver’s ‘sudden death’
A SUSPECT has been charged with murder following what police described as the “sudden death” of a 50-year-old lorry driver in Runcorn.
Rafal Marcin Seremak, 44, was arrested after Miroslaw Iwaniuk was taken by ambulance from a transport depot on Brindley Road on Astmoor Industrial Estate, Runcorn, to Warrington Hospital but died, on the evening of Wednesday, August 4.
Cheshire police said an investigation led to three men aged 47,41 and 44 being arrested on suspicion of murder.
A force spokeswoman said a Home Office post-mortem examination found Mr Iwaniuk died of traumatic back and neck injuries, and an enlarged heart.
Seremak, 44, of no fixed address but from Wolomin in Poland, was charged with murder.
He appeared at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, and then via videolink at Chester Crown Court, sitting at the Crowne Plaza hotel nightingale court, on Monday.
His next appearance is due to take place on October 10, when Seremak is expected to enter his plea.
A provisional trial date has been set for January 24.
Cheshire police said the 47-year-old man was released without charge and the 41-year-old man was released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
