Pensioner in hospital after car collision

AN 80-YEAR-OLD man was rushed to hospital after a car veered off the road in Widnes.

A Range Rover Evoque was reported to have come off the road and on to the drive of a house on Milton Road.

The incident is said to have taken place at 11.20am on Saturday, with Cheshire Police closing part of the road afterwards.

A spokespers­on for the air ambulance service confirmed one patient, a man in his 80s, was taken to hospital by land ambulance following the incident.

Two air ambulances were called to the scene, with multiple police cars and fire and rescue vehicles also called to the scene.

Dash cam footage taken on Milton Road shows four police patrols cars, an ambulance and two fire and recue engines.

The car was recovered from the scene, with police clearing the area.

On the Widnes Police Facebook page, a post said: “Please avoid Milton Road due to an accident from earlier today, we will keep you updated once the road is open again.”

A spokespers­on for North West Air Ambulance said: “I can confirm that Helimed 72 & 75 were called out to an RTC in Widnes today at around 12.20pm.

“We provided a ground escort to hospital.

“The ambulance service, police and fire service were also in attendance.”

Residents who saw the air ambulance in the area commented on the Widnes Police Facebook post.

Lay Lane said: “Saw the air ambulance coming in. Hope everyone is safe and well.”
