Festival-goers warned over dangerous MDMA tablet

FESTIVAL-GOERS have been cautioned by Cheshire police about a dangerous “blue Tesla” MDMA tablet ahead of the Creamfields festival this week.

Due to take place between August 26-29, the festival will see music fans return to Daresbury after being cancelled last year due to coronavirus.

The warnings come after the super-fast ecstasy tablets were linked to two deaths earlier this year.

Dubbed “Blue Tesla” for its appearance of the Tesla car badge, the pill is a lethal cocktail of MDMA and cocaine, which has so far been found in venues across London and Bristol, and could well be found at festivals across the country.

A 21-year-old died after taking ecstasy pills at a club in Tottenham in North London, and with the final festivals of the summer season rolling around at the end of the month, health officials and police are keen to warn anyone of the dangers the drug can have.

A ‘Creamfields Cops’ Twitter page managed by Cheshire police has now issued advice to anyone going to the festival.

The page tweeted: “We’ve been alerted to dangerous MDMA tablets, which are believed to be responsible for two UK deaths.

“If you see any like the one pictured below at the event, report it to security.

“You will never be judged if you/your friend(s) feel unwell so please always seek help if you need it.”

The festival is making its return after being postponed by Covid last year, but the dangers of taking drugs at festivals are being made clear by officials as concerns about people getting carried away arise.

It’s the first major music festival Cheshire will host since before the first lockdown.

During the 2019 event, a 19-year-old teenager from Warrington died after falling ill at the event, and officials issued advice after the tragic incident as drug scares lingered at the last Creamfields festival.

A spokesman said: “There are extra-strong MDMA pills in circulation. If you feel hot, develop a fast heart rate or have a friend who is unresponsive, please seek help with a member of staff as soon as possible.”
