Focus turns to Timperley

-

WITH last Saturday’s fixture against Toft CC cancelled due to rain, Widnes turn their attention to this Saturday’s match at Beaconsfield Road against relegation-threatened Timperley.

Widnes will be looking to reverse their 15-run defeat earlier in the season and build on their recent good form.

Captain Tom Evans is well aware of the threat posed by Timperley and highlighted the form of opening batsman Furgan Shafiq, who is averaging more than 40 and in the reverse fixture captured five wickets.

Jake Sandham and Chris Page have both taken more than 30 each for Timperley and Evans has warned his batsmen over the need to bat responsibly.

He recognised the contribution of Widnes batsman Ali Chughtai, who has scored nearly 600 in his first season with Widnes, and will be hoping all-rounder Majid Majeed will extend his match-winning form.

Qaqmar Hafiz and Aaron Soni have been the pick of the bowlers and Evans believes his team are equally strong whether batting first or second.

Plus he knows that the wicket, expertly prepared by Matty Burns, will produce plenty of runs whilst providing some assistance to the bowlers.

If the weather stays dry, the Widnes supporters should be royally entertained.

The second XI take on league leaders Didsbury at Wilmslow Road, in what is a top-of-the-table clash.

Steve Dean’s side know that victory will take Widnes to the top of the table and will place them in a strong position for promotion.
