Forward moves to Wild

-

THE YKK sponsored Widnes Wild have signed forward Liam Charnock for the forthcoming NIHL season.

Charnock was a member of the Leeds Chiefs team in the NIHL National Division for the 2019/20 season and, prior to that, spent 4 seasons with the Sheffield Steeldogs in the EPL and Moralee Division.

He has played over 200 games at senior level and also made four appearances for the Sheffield Steelers in the Champions Hockey League.

Liam also spent four seasons playing in North America from 2011 to 2015 – with the OHA Maroon Mavericks in the Canadian OEHL U18 league for two seasons and then in the US with the Palm Beach Hawks in the USPHL Elite League and the Ogden Mustangs in the WSHL.

He learnt his junior hockey at Hull and made Conference appearances at every age level.

He has also represented Great Britain at the World University Games on two separate occasions.

Widnes player coach Richard Haggar said of Charnock: “Liam is a fast, energetic and clever player who has played in American and Canada before returning to ice for Sheffield Steeldogs and Leeds Chiefs over the last five years.

“He will bring more experience to our team as well as a presence around the ice. Charns will also be one who leads by example with his work rate and commitment.

“I am looking forward to seeing

Liam in action next weekend!”

Talking about joining the Wild, Charnock said: “I’m really looking forward to a new chapter in Widnes. Having spoken to Richard a few times over summer I think a fresh start here will be a great fit for me, I’m excited to see what this league’s all about and hopefully I can contribute to some success this season.”
