History to chew over as society meets at last

-

HISTORY buffs have been invited to explore Runcorn’s fascinating past with the return of Runcorn and District Historical Society.

The group will be holding a free public exhibition in its new home at Wicksten Drive Christian Centre at 7.30pm on Friday, September 10.

Edible Runcorn will examine the town’s culinary past and people attending will be able to enjoy a biscuit and brew too. The event will mark the return of the historical society after the pandemic and coincides with the start of 2021’s Heritage Open Days initiative.

Diane Stanley, treasurer, said: “At last, we are opening up again in real life.

“We can’t wait to welcome back familiar faces and would love to see lots of new ones too.

“Come and join us in our new ‘home’ on Friday, September 10 with our free-toeveryone Heritage Open Day exhibition.

“We have a great display to browse around on Edible Runcorn, showing what we ate, where we shopped, what we grew, our fast foods and ‘posh’ dining out places, see some weird and wonderful local recipes and much more, some things long gone, and others we still love.”

Runcorn and District Historical Society meets at 7.30pm at Wicksten Drive Christian Centre on Wicksten Drive in Runcorn, and further dates are October 1, November 5, December 3, February 4 and March 4.
