Firefifght­ers tackle blaze in fly-tipped rubbish

FIREFIGHTE­RS extinguish­ed a blaze involving a pile of fly-tipped rubbish in Runcorn.

The heap measured about three square metres in size and was located on a former slip lane linking Weston Point Expressway with the Silver Jubilee Bridge.

One fire engine from Runcorn, attended and was at the scene for around 20 minutes.

The blaze, which is believed to have been caused deliberate­ly, was reported at 11.28am on Sunday, September 5, and was situated beneath the bridge.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokespers­on said: “At around 11.30am firefighte­rs were called to reports of an outside fire in Runcorn.

“The fire involving flytipped rubbish measuring approximat­ely three square metres was underneath the Silver Jubilee Bridge, on an old slipway onto the bridge from the Weston Point Expressway.

“Firefighte­rs used a hose reel jet and a rake to extinguish the fire.

“They then used a thermal imaging camera to look for hotspots. Hotspots

were damped down with the hose reel jet. Firefighte­rs were in attendance for around 20 minutes.”
