AMAN who was found dead in Flint has been named locally as missing Runcorn dad Jamie Grimwood.

Police have been investigating the disappearance of the 23-year-old, who was last seen near an ATS garage on Chester Road in Flint on Monday, August 23.

On Saturday (September 11) police announced that a body of a man was found on land close to where he went missing and it was confirmed locally to be Mr Grimwood.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “Sadly we can confirm that earlier this evening (Saturday, September 11) the body of a man was found on Chester Road in Flint.”

Chief Inspector Jon Aspinall of North Wales Police said: “At present, the death is being treated as unexplained and the Coroner for North East Wales has been informed.

“A police presence remains at the scene on Chester Road in Flint whilst enquiries continue.

“We are not yet in a position to release further details.”

In a post on the Remembering Jamie Grimwood page, Christopher Day said: “Tonight sadly we have found Jamie and unfortunately it wasn’t the result we had all hoped for.

“We are unsure what led up to Jamie’s final moments, and are deeply saddened by this.

“As a family we are so very grateful for all the help and support we have received from everybody.

“We would like to now take some time as a family and hope everybody can appreciate this.

“Thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts.”

Hundreds of tributes have now been paid online to Mr Grimwood, with friends and Flint locals expressing their deep distress at the tragic news.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in Jamie’s memory, with more than £1,500 already being raised to help his family.

The page said: “On behalf of the people of Flint, we have set up this page purely to help ease the pain and stress for Jamie’s family.

“As a town Flint always finds a way of coming together and helping and supporting anyone who needs us.

“Thank you to everyone who helped search, share his image and spread the news.

“We all appreciate every single one of you, reading all of your kind words is such a comfort.

“On Saturday September 11, Jamie was found and although it was not the outcome we had been wishing for but now we can lay him to rest.

“Jamie was a bright, welcoming, genuine young man, a loved son, brother, nephew, grandson and dad to his young son William.

“As Jamie was missing for so long, the family all had to take time of work to search, so we are reaching out to all that care to help lay Jamie to rest.

“Please donate what you can to make this tragic loss a tiny bit easier to deal with for his family, especially mum Jacqueline and dad Lee.”

Tributes have poured in for Jamie including Steph Johnson, one of Jamie’s aunts, who said: “My heart is broken that Jamie Grimwood is no longer with us. He’s the little baby boy who made me an auntie and stole my heart for the first time.

“I honestly can’t put in to words how much he meant to our entire family. Jamie is exactly how he seems in pictures just a fun bubbly loving caring helpful person.

“And he was the most amazing daddy to little William. I’m so devastated that he never got to see the impact he has had on thousands of peoples lives and everyone wanting him to return home safely to his loving mum and dad and his two brothers.

“So sleep tight my little sweetheart. Rest with the angels now and watch over William in all that he does. I love you more than you could ever believe Jamie. RIP.”

Kimberley Johnson said: “I still can’t believe you’re gone, I miss you so so much, my nephew by blood but best friends by choice. You’re the brightest star in the sky.

“Jamie was loved by so many, has the kindest soul and taken far too soon.”

Helen Johnson said: “I watched you come into this world, held you close as a baby and watched you grow into a loving, gentle and kind young man. I cannot believe that I’ll never see you again and it’s broken my heart knowing that after 23 years you’re no longer in this world but up in heaven watching over us.”
