Digger fire is visible for miles

THICK black smoke was seen billowing above Runcorn from a blaze involving a digger.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) said one appliance from Runcorn and one from Widnes were called to Barlow Way in Weston Point at 3.01pm on Thursday, September 16.

A CFRS spokespers­on said crews found a digger “well alight” at an industrial premises.

One firefighte­r donned breathing apparatus while hose reel jets were used to douse the Crews then damped down the area.

They were at the scene for around an hour.
