Academy teams set for the off

THE Widnes Wild Academy have announced fixture dates for their various age group junior teams for the new 2021/22 season.

The Academy teams will be playing in different age groups for the new season after a decision by the English Ice Hockey Association’s Junior Management Committee (JMC) and instead of continuing with the previous set up of playing competitions at Under 9s, 11s, 13s, 15s and 18s levels, it was decided to switch to U10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s for the 2021/22 campaign.

The decision was made to try and offset disruption among the junior teams following 18 months of rink closures and training restrictions due to the Covid pandemic.

The action starts this Saturday 25th September with the Academy Under 12s at home to Manchester Storm at Planet Ice Widnes - face off 3.20pm - followed by the U16s at home to Blackburn (4.50pm).

On Sunday, the Wild Under 10s team host a four team cross ice tournament featuring opposition from Bradford, Manchester Storm and Telford – 4.15pm start - and the Under 14s travel away to face Sheffield – 6.15pm face off.

All Academy home games at Planet Ice Widnes are free admission and supporters are encouraged to go along and support the stars of the future.
