Under 16s advance in Cheshire Cup tie

-

RUNCORN Town Under 15s put in a good display in their St Helens & Rainhill

Junior Alliance League game away at Cromwell Athletic Spitfires, but were beaten 3-1.

The Town youngsters started well with the best chances coming from Aaron Pimblett free kicks.

After 20 minutes keeper Ethan Glover picked up and injury and had to be substituted with defender Ellis Edwards taking over in goal.

Town were looking the more likely to open the scoring, Callum Kervin-Lowe’s header from Lewis McGee’s corner was well saved.

Towards the end of the half Edwards was called into action, making a great save from shot from outside the box, then a double save following a counter attack.

Cromwell took the lead 13 minutes into the second half with a good finish just inside the box following a counter attack.

Ten minutes later Town equalised when Aaron Pimblett’s free kick from 30 yards took a slight deflection on it’s way into the bottom corner.

It looked like Town were going to hold on for their first point of the season, but two goals in the last five minutes sealed the win for Cromwell.

The Under 16s had a break from the league as they took on Park Royal in a Cheshire

Cup tie.

The game on Sunday afternoon was played at the Viridor Community Stadium.

Having defeated Frodsham Park 6-2 in the Preliminary Round, the boys were in the mood for goals again, scoring four in each half to seal an 8-1 win.

The standout player was Liam Hall who scored five times.

Harry Cartlidge, Nathan Roberts and Ben Boote were also on target for Town.
