Back to back victories for in-form U18s

THE Wild Academy Under 18 team picked up their second win in a row with a 14-2 victory over the

Solihull U18s at Planet Ice Widnes on

Saturday.

Adam Case opened the scoring for Widnes in the 3rd minute and Ben McLellan made it 2-0 on 11 minutes. Solihull pulled a goal back but unanswered strikes from Jake Meehan, Case again, and Ellis Mahar put the Wild youngsters well and truly in the driving seat and the score stood at 5-1 at the first period break.

Mullarkey just 25 seconds from the restart put them 6-1 up and George Plevin made it 7-1 before Solihull were able to pull a goal back for themselves.

In the second half of the game, it was all Widnes and a goal from Mullarkey and two more from Plevin in the second period, followed by more from Mahar, Case (2), Plevin and Meehan in the third handed the Wild a comprehens­ive victory.

The Widnes top scorer for the game was George Plevin with 3+4, while Adam Case hit 4+1.

The win leaves the Wild in third place in the North Under 18 league table with a game in hand over the top two teams.

They are next in action this Saturday 23rd October when they face league leaders Sheffield at Planet Ice Widnes, 5pm face off.

The Wild Academy Under 16 team moved up to 4th place in the league table with a 14-2 win over Solihull Under 16s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

Liam Yarwood opened the scoring for Widnes after 2 minutes and further goals from Luke Alston and Cody Ogden made it 3-0 before Solihull managed to find the back of the net themselves. A second goal for Ogden left the score at 4-1 at the first period break.

Second period from goals from Alston, Yarwood (2) and Nathan Wilson put the Wild youngsters well in control with an 8-1 advantage and then a further 6 goals in the third period from Yarwood (2), Ogden, Wilson (2) and Adam Vigh-Yecsey rounded off the scoring for Widnes. A late goal for Solihull gave them something more to cheer about but the game finished at 14-2 to the Wild.

The top scorers for Widnes were Liam Yarwood with 5+1 and Cody Ogden with 3+2. Luke Alston hit 2+2 while Nathan Wilson contribute­d a hat-trick 3+0.

The Wild Academy Under 12 team lost 8-0 away to league leaders Manchester Storm Under 12s in Altrincham on Saturday.

The Widnes Under 12 team has a number of under age players from the U10s in the side, who are able to gain invaluable experience of playing at a higher level.
