Charity calls for centre classroom assistant

-

A CEREBRAL palsy charity is seeking a new classroom assistant to work Monday to Friday in its centre in Runcorn.

Stick ‘n’ Step provides free weekly conductive education sessions to over 100 children and young people with cerebral palsy up to the age of 25, allowing them to gain the skills they need to live more independent lives.

Classroom assistants play a vital role alongside the conductors to help each child reach their full potential, supporting the planning and delivery of conductive education programmes.

Anyone interested in applying for the post should not be put off if they don’t have a background in childcare or working in an educational setting.

Jenny Snell, acting CEO, said: “We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring person to join our team, regardless of their professional background. It’s true to say that no two days are ever the same at Stick ‘n’ Step so if you are looking for a varied and incredibly rewarding role, this could be perfect for you.”

Simon Duncan, who now works as a classroom assistant at Stick ‘n’ Step’s Wallasey office, worked as a window cleaner before joining the Stick ‘n’ Step team.

He said: “Before starting at Stick ‘n’ Step I had never worked with children or young people. Since starting my role as a classroom assistant I have found what joy it can bring to be impacting a child’s life in a positive way.

“The support from the welcoming team is overwhelming and they encourage and inspire not only the children, but other staff members, including me, to achieve their full potential.

“There is no way to describe how the support they offer to children, young people and their families helps to improve their lives. To work for them is an incredible feeling and certainly impacted my life for the better.”

Michelle Clarke originally worked as a cleaner for Stick ‘n’ Step before deciding she would like to take the opportunity to work directly with the children at the Runcorn centre.

She said: “Every day I get to do something I love and make an impact on children’s lives. Working with all the children each day is different and hard work but it’s rewarding too.”

If you think the role of classroom assistant at Stick ‘n’ Step could be just what you are looking for, submit your CV and covering letter to jobs@sticknstep.org.
