Linnets out to slash rivals’ 10-point lead

- BY RICHARD PARTINGTON

RUNCORN Linnets remain in the Northern Premier League West Division play-off places after picking up four points from two away games.

Calum McIntyre’s men beat Ramsbottom United 3-1 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Saturday and followed that with a 1-1 draw at Colne on Tuesday evening.

Linnets are back at home on Saturday when they will look to cut Workington’s 10-point lead at the top of the table.

Speaking after his side’s impressive victory against the Rams at the weekend, when goals from Ryan Brooke, Joe Lynch and Iwan Murray secured victory, McIntyre said: “I thought it was one of our most dominant performances of the season in terms of chances created. It was a brilliant way to win a game but not good for the heart rate of anyone involved!

“It was exhausting, but I’m delighted the lads got what they deserved.

“We dominated the game against a good, improving side and a management team that we really like.

“Genuinely, this squad has something about it. We’re the youngest team right at the top end of the division and we keep churning them out. Performance was pleasing, result pleasing and pleased to have bodies back in.

“Hopefully we might have a Saturday that isn’t as stressful as that next time we win a game!”

McIntyre bolstered his squad with the arrival of Scott Reed.

Reed has previously played for Winsford, Northwich Victoria and most recently Bangor City.

Meanwhile, Craig Lindfield has departed the club.
