Mixed bag of results for Under 18s
THE Wild Academy Under 18 team had a mixed weekend with a 9-4 home win over Nottingham Under 18s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday and then losing 8-3 away to Sheffield U18s on Sunday.
In the game on Saturday, Widnes opened the scoring on 2 minutes with a goal from Liam Yarwood.
Nottingham hit back with two quick goals but with further goals from Michael Price and George Plevin it looked as if the Wild would be leading 3-2 at the first period break.
However, a last gasp goal for the visitors with just one second left on the clock left the game all tied up at 3-3.
Widnes had by far the better of the second period and four unanswered goals from Joel Bark, Yarwood again, and two more from Plevin - gave them a commanding 7-4 lead after 40 minutes’ play.
Two more goals followed for Widnes – a third in a row for
Plevin to make it 4 in the game for him and then one from Jake Meeghan. Nottingham fired in a late short handed consolation with two minutes left to play but the match finished in a 9-4 win to Widnes.
In the away game on Sunday, Sheffield took the lead in the second minute and were 4-0 up by the end of the first period.
Widnes scored straight from the restart through George Plevin but three more Sheffield goals quickly followed.
A strike from Luke Mullarkey on 36 minute pulled the score back to 7-2 and Plevin added his second just a minute later but the hosts score again in the last minute of the period to round off the goal action for the game.
