Speedy start sets up win for Ladies

-

LINNETS LADIES ....... 5 WEST KIRBY ............... 1

MANAGER Dave Todd said he wanted this game to be put to bed before half time and in an electric start by Runcorn Linnets Ladies they did just that.

Molly Hewitt put in a cross in that found Lile Ashley who forced a save from the West Kirby keeper. From the resultant corner kick and melee the ball struck the post before Ashley fired home all in a frantic first minute.

Marcia JonesSacharewicz set up Ashley for number two with just six minutes on the clock. The visitors weathered the storm until Emma Mclarney struck one against the crossbar before slotting home another Hewitt cross on 38 minutes.

Jess Bazley was next on the scoresheet after a forceful run into the box saw her shot go through the fingers of the keeper on 41 minutes.

Runcorn started off strongly in the second half Chelsea Gillies instrumental is just about every thing today lashing the ball home from a corner in the 50th minute.

That galvanised West Kirby who began to get a foothold in the game. The visitors pulled a goal back on 65 minutes with a long range free kick and were still a threat going forward but the Linnets defence had been well marshalled all game by Evans, Barker, Middleton and the impressive return of Beth Graham giving plenty of cover to Chloe Jordan in the home goal.

Ashley nearly put the icing on the cake as her shot was pushed onto the post.

Seven points from nine as the Linnets finally get to grip with life in North West Regional league. Next up is a trip to league leaders Curzon

Ashton.
