£800k funding to help vulnerable families
HALTON is to receive nearly £800,000 aimed at resolving issues among “vulnerable families” before they spiral out of control.
The funding is part of a £34m package for the North West from the Government’s Supporting Families programme, which will receive more than £200m across England in 2022-23.
A Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities spokeswoman said the scheme has helped more than 470,000 vulnerable households around the country already.
The latest round of funding is intended to help nearly 11,000 vulnerable families across the North West.
Nearly 11,000 vulnerable families across the North West of England will receive tailored support and interventions through government investment in the flagship Supporting Families programme.
The spokeswoman said the programme will deploy key workers to tackle challenges that put vulnerable families “at risk of neglect or harm” before they develop into “more significant problems”.
She said people will be supported to leave abusive relationships, receive support for mental health issues and to find work.
The exact funding amount allocated to Halton for 2022-23 is £774,700.
Halton spans the towns of Runcorn and Widnes, Cheshire, and some neighbouring villages.
Kemi Badenoch, minister for levelling up communities, said: “As a society we must help the most vulnerable in our communities and the government is focused on giving families the support they need to build a better future.
“Our Supporting Families programme in the North West plays an integral role as we recover from the pandemic, making sure children get back to school, helping those who have lost their jobs get back into work, protecting people’s mental health and stopping domestic abuse.”
