‘Joker’ biker jailed for dangerous driving
A BANNED biker who goes by the name “Joker” tried to flee from police officers by mounting the pavement.
Lee Roberts, 40, of Runcorn was listed under his alias “The Joker” when he appeared for plea and sentence at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Warrington.
Cheshire Police said Roberts was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and with no insurance after officers tried to speak to him as he rode a Kawasaki motorbike on Underwood Lane in Crewe on Tuesday, February 8, but he continued on his way.
The rider resorted to leaving the road.
A force spokeswoman said: “He continued to ride towards Bradfield Road before mounting the pavement on Bradfield Road.
“Officers then arrested and subsequently charged Lee Roberts, 40, of Thorn Road, with driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and dangerous driving.”
After entering guilty pleas before District Judge Nicholas Sanders at Warrington Magistrates’ Court, Roberts was sentenced to six months in prison and banned from driving for two years and nine months from when he leaves prison, with a mandatory extended retest to be taken before he can hit the road again.
He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and £128 to victim services.
Court papers said custody was required as Roberts had “numerous convictions for similar” offences.
Last May Roberts was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Chester
Crown Court after pretending to be his twin brother after police pulled him over driving a white MG near his home address.
Cheshire Police reported at the time Roberts had not “had a valid licence since being banned from driving in 2001”.
Following his sentencing on February 10, the force said Roberts “uses the alias Joker”.
