All change... time to have your say

- BY OLIVER CLAY

VIEWS are being sought on plans being formed to transform part of Runcorn.

As part of Riverside housing’s 10-year £20m investment in the Halton Lea ward, residents have been invited to find out more and share their opinions on proposals being developed, the first phase of which are focusing on Palacefields Local Centre and The Uplands.

Two drop-in sessions have already taken place, with another at Bethesda Church on Lapwing Grove from from 3-8pm this afternoon, Thursday, March 3.

Visitors are advised that social distancing will be in place.

Riverside said the consultations are the first step of a series of events in coming months to design “huge improvements” for the area.

The housing association said it expects the work to have a “major effect on people’s lives and homes” and therefore it is important that customers and local groups are involved.

Part of the transformation is likely to include replacing old homes, the organisation said.

The first events will focus on your views on the changes for The Uplands and the Local Centre, to be followed by drop-ins relating to wider changes for Hallwood Park and Palacefields, both in Runcorn.

Hannah Fleming, Riverside regeneration development manager, said: “We’ve committed to investing £20m over the next 10 years in transforming homes and the landscape in Halton Lea.

“This was widely welcomed, and people agreed it was long overdue and positive news.

“However, that’s going to mean significant change; such as replacing old homes with new and carrying out major works on the landscape and there’s a human impact to that.

“You can’t affect that level of change without significant impact on people’s lives both in terms of the disruption major physical works create and changes to some people’s living arrangements both in the short and long term.

“This consultation sets out the basis of how we intend to physically transform the area and gives us the opportunity to begin talking to local people about the potential changes to their homes and their community.

“That’s what the consultation is for – to understand people’s perspective on potential change and open the conversation and so it is vital people have their say.

“We are also delighted to announce a third round of Community Chest Funding for Halton Lea with £50,000 available to deliver community-based projects.”
