Visitors celebrate double whammy
THE Wild Academy Under 14 team made it a double whammy for Widnes after they emulated their U12 team mates to win 4-7 away at Billingham Stars U12s on
Saturday.
The hosts opened the scoring after just 2 minutes of the game and led 2-0 by the first period break.
Evan Walker – playing his second game of the day and stepping up from his usual age level - pulled a goal back for the Wild three minutes from the restart and two more goals, from Reece O’Brien and Jared Knowles, had Widnes leading 2-3 at the end of the second period. They continued the third period in similar vein and a second goal from O’Brien after just 24 seconds put the Wild youngsters well and truly in the driving seat.
A second goal for Knowles less than a minute later put Widnes 2-5 up but Billingham pulled a goal back on 38 minutes.
A Ruben Price strike restored the three-goal advantage for Widnes but that was countered by another Billingham goal - and then, with just 24 seconds left on the clock, Reece O’Brien rounded off his hat trick with a 7th – and final goal - for the Wild.
