Tap and aid families in need with new scheme
POLICE in Runcorn have teamed up with Shopping City and other organisations to raise cash to help disadvantaged families.
The mall is working with Citizens Advice Halton, Onward Homes, Cheshire Constabulary and the force’s charity Crimebeat to collect donations to provide food and toiletries for vulnerable households in Halton.
As part of the Halton Community Campaign, a digital donation point has been set up opposite Blush nail bar and Costa coffee.
Dave Pearman, Shopping City manager, said: “Donations will be Covid19 safe and cashless. Simply tap the payment device with your debit (or) credit card and you have helped us to support any families in need.
“Each contactless tap will raise £2 and if anyone should wish to donate more, then tap again to contribute further.
“All proceeds will go to this worthy cause and the generosity of our customers has never failed to surprise us. We hope that you will be able to support this year’s campaign and help the vulnerable in our community.”
Runcorn officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) will be supporting the cause by visiting the shopping centre on their daily patrols.
Chief Inspector Andy Blizard said: “My officers and PCSOs will be in the Shopping City daily so please approach them for advice or a chat.
“It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know your local officers and understand the work they do to help make your neighbourhood a safer place to live and work.
“This type of community partnership is vital in supporting all our communities and bringing people together - we’re pleased to be involved in such a campaign.”

“Everyone involved in this community campaign will do all they can to support the most vulnerable people in the area and Cheshire Crimebeat will ensure every penny collected is spent to benefit those who need it most.”
