Huge warehouse greenlit

-

A MASSIVE new warehouse is to be built in Widnes creating more than 200 jobs after planning chiefs gave it the go ahead.

Halton Council’s development management committee met at Runcorn Town Hall to approve the scheme by Madog Estates Ltd for the 190,000 sq ft distribution centre on Viking Park off Mathieson Road.

The 12 acre site is on brownfield land earmarked for industrial and employment use and part of the wider Mersey Multimodal Gateway development. It will also include 10,000 sq ft of office space, 16 docking bays for HGVs, as well as additional HGV and car parking and service yard for vehicles.

The plans said that dependent on the final occupier, the proposed warehouse and distribution centre – roughly the same size as three football pitches – had the potential to generate between 201 and 273 full time jobs.

Other industrial and employment uses are nearby including a distribution centre for Warburtons, a large Tesco Distribution Centre, Eddie Stobart Container Logistics and various industrial uses along Foundry Lane to the west.

Ed Harvey from planning agents Avison Young told the committee that the scheme would bring jobs to the borough.

The plans were approved by the committee.
